Zinfandel 2021 - Late Harvest
So it’s been over 14 years since we’ve produced a Late Harvest Zinfandel, yet our old Zin vines here on the estate seem to be especially well-suited to making this wine. Even at its ripe picking brix, the wine is never raisiny. Instead, the Zin pops through like a fresh berry compote. The aromas this vintage are a toasted blackberry cobbler with hints of clove and nutmeg. Bury yourself in a bit more, and the red fruit appears with cherry and chocolate covered raspberries filling in the niches. The expectation is that this wine is going to be over-the-top in richness yet curiously, the 2021 vintage retains its elegance. The entry is bold but not cloying in any way shape or form. The palate is rich with boysenberry fruit but balanced by a mid-palate edginess that just seamlessly works. Youthful tannins also moderate the luxuriousness of the wine, making it an experience of a great conversation in front of a warm fireplace! It doesn’t get much better than that!
